The neurofeedback field comes full circle!

Max had his fourth session today, which was followed by a chiropractic adjustment.  When I put him in his travel bag to go to the office, he didn’t resist.  Usually it is a game of hide and seek and when he is caught, his whole body is rigid, and tense and he squirms like a worm. Today  Max’s body language was that of openness. Max is also so much calmer when traveling.  Max let me hook him up without any resistance.  He preferred to stay in his travel bag resting peacefully during the session, placing his head on his paws, as if he was going to take a nap.  My mother was present to observe the session.  She noted that during the longer pauses in the music Max eyes opened wide and he would tilt his head sideways in curiosity.  My Mom noted that she herself felt as if she was having a Neurofeedback session despite the fact that she wasn’t hooked up herself.  My mom has had numerous Neurofeedback sessions, but has no idea about S.T.A.R. hook ups or about the phenomenon that when you give a session you get a session, but she thanked Max for letting her share in the training effect of his session.  After the session Max got out of his travel bag and moved to the edge of the bed to let me pick him up.  I was taken back as Max does not like to be picked up, never mind held in someone’s arms for 5 minutes. His body was so relaxed with no muscle tension.  I had to put him back in his travel bag as my arms got tired holding him!

Max had his 3rdsession today.  It was successful in that he didn’t require the chiropractic adjustment to calm him,  which has allowed me to put the sensors on him.  Max was very patient letting me adjust the  sensors to get a good signal. As with humans it is often difficult to get a good connection on people with short hair as, the hair pushes against the sensors, popping them off.  With the short fur on his head, it takes special attention to get the sensors to sit just right.  After 1 ½ minutes in Zen 1, I briefly turned my head from Max’s direction to adjust the computer and I heard a swooshing sound and the light pounce of Max’s paws hitting the floor. I  turned around to find the sensors dangling on the blanket, with no Max…..he was on the floor.  He looked up at me with his big blue eyes and shook his entire body as if he was shaking himself after a bath.  Then he nodded his head as if to say thank you and he sauntered  out of the room. I always tell my clients: “you will know when you are done”, and  today Max was done.

Overall the improvements seen in Max have been amazing. Since his adoption 1 ½ years ago, Max always eats standing up; he is never relaxed when eating and he will dart with the slightest back ground noise.  Since his first 5 minute NeuroCARE session, Max has been sitting when he eats, resting comfortably  not disturbed by any other sounds in the immediate area.  As well Max has not hid under the bed since his first NeuroCARE session. He has been sitting out in the open socializing. Prior to NeuroCARE Max would hide under tables, and his walking route always followed the walls and furniture.  Today he is walking out in the open creating his own path and Max confidently sits out in the open bathing himself.

PS No pictures as his trainer wasn’t quick enough!  I think this is a good example of the trainer needing to dance with the client. I wasn’t quick enough in adjusting the difficulty button and he let me know it!

Today was Max’s second Neurofeedback Session.  He did very well.  He an adjustment with Kevin the chiropractor and climbed back into his travel bag.   I put the sensors on him and he was very patience letting me adjust them to get a better connection. It was as if he knew what was coming. We completed a full regular Zengar session using Jeff Bova’s 2007 music. Max was very content.  During Zen 1 he sat with his eyes half open.  When we moved into Zengar 2, Max opened his eyes and watched me intently.  As we moved into Zen 3 he became very perky and then settled, resting his head for a slight nap.  During Zen 4 he opened his eyes and lifted his head again. He was very calm and gentle throughout the entire session. I think he likes it!  As noted by his post session picture.

I hope you don’t think I am crazy…..but I gave Max his first NeuroCARE session today. Five minutes in Zen 1.  He has developed diabetes and his blood sugars are high so  I took him into see the chiropractor I work with. After his adjustment he was lying on my massage table very calm.  Never before have I been able to get the sensors on him, so I think the adjustment made a difference.  I thought he looks so still….just maybe he would let me hook him up.  He fell asleep during the Neurofeedback and I have never seen him so peaceful. This picture is at the beginning when we started.  I stopped at 5 minutes because of my time constraints, but I think he would have taken the complete regular Zengar session if I had the time.  And tonight he stayed out and socialized all evening something he hasn’t done since his blood sugars have been elevated....
