Buying Used Equipment
PURCHASING A LICENSE OR USED EQUIPMENT FROM ANOTHER NeuroCARE® USER:
It is relatively rare that people buy and sell used equipment in our field, for whatever reason. However, with such purchases we do see people bump into issues that we would like to draw your attention to.
If you are considering buying someone else's computer system, please be aware that unless it has been in our maintenance program, it is likely to have been poorly maintained- at best. We see systems regularly that are loaded up with softwares we specifically recommend NOT using, with little evidence of care. Even with the best of intentions, folks just do not have or take the time to do regular maintenance, and usually do not have the knowledge of how to do this adequately for the purposes of running NeuroCARE®. It is not necessarily difficult to do, but we rarely see it actually done.
Another group of systems we see are those that have been configured and "maintained" by a family member, friend or tech person who has knowledge but does not take the time to check what we recommend to maintain NeuroCARE®. These systems are way out of "spec", meaning if you buy this system you will spend time and money getting it to a place where it is clean, can be licensed successfully to you and in a state where it can run NeuroCARE® properly. It is important to note also, that just because the system was apparently running OK for the seller, it does not mean it will for you. When you try to upgrade or re-license you may bump into difficulties. It is not these precedures that cause the problem, it is that trying to perform them reveals problems that were lurking. If you must buy such a system, you might want to suggest you will make payment dependent upon a successful relicense and ability to record data.
At best, these systems are usually at least two years old when you get them, which is old for a computer. Most folks consider buying second-hand to save money. We have seen it all too often end up costing as much and frequently more, than a new system would, and at best you still have an old system. Based on our experience, we would not suggest this route. The only time it might make sense (again, be aware you might have to spend cash on an uncertain outcome) is to see if you can run NeuroCARE® on a system you already own, and have enough knowledge to follow recommendations under the DIY sections of Zengar Store and Support areas of this website.
It also makes sense if you have an older system running NeuroCARE® and want to upgrade to a newer one, that you allocate the older system as a REmote™ system. You already know the system and can support the individual in its use.
Buying a used encoder makes more sense, but do make sure it is new enough to not run into some of the problems described here. Make sure the preamp/s and all necessary leads (wires) are present and in good order and start off with your own new set of sensors.
And finally, we would like to point out that under no circumstances will Zengar take any responsibility whatsoever for any purchase from another person, including failure of the system to license, read an encoder and so forth. We can do our best to assist you, but you will be responsible for technical support charges whether or not the outcome is sucessful. So buyer, beware!
The following information pertains to purchasing a NeuroCARE® license previously owned by somone else. Again, Zengar will not assume responsibility for your purchase of second-hand products not being what you expected!
1. Unless the seller sends the kill license, the transfer of the license cannot be effected. You may want the seller to cc you on the email they send to us with the kill license so you know thi stask has been completed.
2. The owner may or may not be a registered user of the current version of the software. You may want to check with us, the version the seller is registered for. The version they sell you will be the version you will own, and we only license current versions, meaning you will have to pay for the necessary upgrade.
3. Your software license may or may not include the special Zengar music. They may have purchased NeuroCARE® prior to our distributing the music with it. Clarify with them whether your purchase includes the music. If you purchase the replacement software CD or flash drive from us, it includes the original music, You can also purchase the second music release at any time from Zengar, and not need the original. The special music is specially written for the Zen modes and perfectly matches the timings of a regular and extended session.
4. There are costs associated with transferring the license. You will need to send a request for site key via the website, to license your encoder and software. The current fee for this is $50. Then there are the costs of new CDs, music if you want it, plus shipping. None of this adds up to very much, but you should be aware of them.
